VICTORY TOWNSHIP — West Shore Community College will host a closing event for its current exhibition, “Go, Color. Go!,” featuring works by Jamey Barnard.
The event will take place Thursday, Sept. 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Manierre Dawson Gallery. The event will include a pasta bar and is free and open to the public.
The exhibition presents a series of colorful and playful paintings. Barnard uses a graphical visual vocabulary, often bordering on pure abstraction, to depict everyday objects and scenes. His abstracted images draw out viewers’ curiosity, while his Rube Goldberg-like settings evoke a sense of playful mischief.
Barnard is an Onekama-based artist with a prolific career. Educated as a journalist at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, Barnard brought his curiosity and keen eye for detail to Chicago. While working in the advertising industry, he explored the beauty of his surroundings through art.
He later relocated to Michigan, where he raised a family and has been creating art in the West Shore area for several decades. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout Michigan and the Great Lakes region.
