US-31 resurfacing project to begin Monday

September 9, 2026

LUDINGTON — The Michigan Department of Transportation will begin a $3.7 million resurfacing project Monday, Sept. 14, along a 4.6-mile stretch of US-31 in Mason County.

The project will include resurfacing US-31 between US-10 and Chauvez Road. Work is expected to continue through mid-November.

According to MDOT, lane, ramp and total closures will be in effect at various times throughout the project.

Traffic will be detoured using US-31 Business Route, also known as South Pere Marquette Highway.

Temporary all-way stops will be installed at the northbound US-31 Exit 166 intersection with South Pere Marquette Highway and at the Oceana Drive/Frontage Road intersection with South Pere Marquette Highway.

MDOT said the project is expected to improve the ride quality of the roadway and extend the service life of US-31.

The project is scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 14, with completion anticipated by mid-November.
