Michigan hunters will again have an opportunity to meet with Department of Natural Resources staff, have harvested deer aged and pick up free hunting-related items during a series of hunter appreciation events this fall.
The DNR will host events across the state on Monday, Sept. 14 from 3 to 7 p.m.; Monday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The closest scheduled location to Mason and Oceana counties is the Muskegon State Game Area Field Office, 7600 E. Messinger Road, Twin Lake.
Hunters may bring a harvested deer or lower jaw to the events for aging, though bringing a deer is not required to participate.
DNR staff will also distribute free hunting items, which may include patches, stickers, hand warmers and field-dressing gloves while supplies last. Light refreshments will be available.
The events are intended to give hunters an opportunity to talk with DNR staff and other hunters about the season and share their hunting experiences.
Other northern Lower Peninsula locations include DNR customer service centers in Cadillac, Gaylord, Roscommon and Traverse City.
Southern Lower Peninsula locations include offices and state game areas in Allegan, Middleville, Bay City, Cass City, Jones, Belding, Lansing, Lapeer, Paris, Plainwell, East Lansing and Grass Lake.
Upper Peninsula events will be held at DNR offices in Baraga, Gladstone, Marquette, Newberry and Sault Ste. Marie.
The Rose Lake Field Office in East Lansing will host the Sept. 14 event at 8903 E. Stoll Road. The Nov. 16 and Nov. 21 events will be held at the Rose Lake Field Office barns, 8431 E. Stoll Road.
Giveaways may vary by location and are available while supplies last.
