LUDINGTON — Nearly a year after construction was halted by the City of Ludington, AndyS celebrated its long-awaited arrival in downtown Ludington Friday evening with a ribbon cutting and open house.
The restaurant, sports bar and entertainment venue, located at 129 W. Ludington Ave., will officially open to the public Sunday, Aug. 16, at 4 p.m. The approximately $10 million development is owned by ASR Real Estate LLC, owned by Dr. Andy Riemer of Ludington.
Riemer said Friday he was grateful for the support the community has shown for AndyS, particularly in light of the issues the project has faced with the Ludington city government.
The celebration marked a major milestone for a project that was just weeks from its anticipated opening when the city issued a stop-work order in August 2025. The city alleged structural support columns for the building’s second-floor overhang were constructed too close to Rath Avenue and did not comply with the approved site plan. ASR Real Estate subsequently sued the city, arguing the building had been constructed according to plans previously approved by city officials.
In March, 51st Circuit Court Judge Eric R. Fox granted a preliminary injunction in favor of ASR Real Estate, ordering the city to rescind the stop-work order and allowing construction to resume. Fox found ASR had demonstrated a likelihood of success on the merits of its claims and determined inconsistencies in the approved site plan made simultaneous compliance with all requirements impossible.
The City of Ludington issued a temporary occupancy permit May 28, allowing AndyS to operate while issues involving the second-floor overhang and parking along Rath Avenue remain unresolved. The underlying lawsuit remains pending in Mason County’s 51st Circuit Court.
AndyS features three bars, more than 70 televisions and entertainment areas throughout the three-story building. Las Vegas bartender Eric Hobbie developed the cocktail menu, with specialty cocktails offered at each bar and 24 taps on each level.
The main floor includes a stage designed for live music, comedy and theater performances. The second floor is home to AndyS Country Club, which includes three golf and sports simulators along with private event space. Suzy’s Rooftop occupies the third level and includes indoor and outdoor seating overlooking downtown Ludington and Lake Michigan.
Chef Leo Spizzirri, author of “Pizza Love,” will be at AndyS for Sunday’s opening, preparing hand-stretched pizza in the restaurant’s wood-fired oven.
Reservations will be required for dining and can be made by calling 231-515-ANDY (2639) between 2 and 4 p.m. daily.
AndyS initially will be open beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Permanent hours will be announced later.
