LUDINGTON — Ludington City Councilor Cheri Stibitz and Carol Hoekstra advanced to the Nov. 3 general election Tuesday after finishing as the top two vote-getters in the city’s three-way mayoral primary, according to unofficial results.
Stibitz led the field with 823 votes, while Hoekstra received 507 votes. Beth Elliott finished third with 479 votes and was eliminated from the race.
The primary reduced the field from three candidates to two, with the top two finishers earning spots on the November ballot.
Unofficial citywide totals were:
- Cheri Stibitz: 823
- Carol Hoekstra: 507
- Beth Elliott: 479
Stibitz carried each of the city’s six precincts, receiving 189 votes in Precinct 1, 151 in Precinct 2, 169 in Precinct 3, 100 in Precinct 4, 115 in Precinct 5 and 99 in Precinct 6. Hoekstra finished second overall, although Elliott narrowly outpolled her in Precinct 6 by a 95-74 margin.
Stibitz and Hoekstra will face each other in the Nov. 3 general election to determine Ludington’s next mayor.
