LUDINGTON — The West Shore Civic Band will honor the legacies of two longtime Mason County music educators during the annual Howard Hornung/Tom Thomas Memorial Band Concert on Monday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at Waterfront Park.
The concert is free and open to the public, with donations accepted to support the band’s programs.

Howard Hornung
The annual performance pays tribute to Howard Hornung, who served as band director for Ludington Area Schools, and Tom Thomas, who directed bands at Mason County Central. Both educators influenced generations of local musicians during their careers, and the concert has become a tradition celebrating their lasting impact on music education in the community.
Family members, friends and former students of Hornung and Thomas are invited to perform with the band. An optional rehearsal will be held Monday, Aug. 3, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Mason County Central High School band room. Musicians planning to participate are asked to email westshorecivicband@gmail.com in advance.
The West Shore Civic Band is a Scottville-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization directed by Janet Brown. The ensemble welcomes musicians of all ages and experience levels while promoting musicianship, camaraderie and community enrichment through its summer concert season. In addition to the annual memorial concert, the band performs at local care facilities and other community venues.
