SCOTTVILLE — Angela Taylor, one of Mason County Central Schools’ longest-serving administrators, has resigned after 26 years with the district to accept a position as assistant principal at the Manistee Early Childhood Center. Taylor is MCC’s state and federal program director and director of Victory Early Childhood Center.
The Mason County Central Board of Education accepted Taylor’s resignation during its regular monthly meeting Monday, July 20. Her last working day with the district will be Wednesday, July 22, according to her resignation letter.
Taylor will join Manistee Area Public Schools on Thursday, July 23, serving as assistant principal of the newly renovated Manistee Early Childhood Center. She was hired by the Manistee school board during its July 15 meeting.
During her tenure at MCC, Taylor oversaw the creation of Victory Early Childhood Center, administered the district’s migrant education programs and frequently served as the district’s second-ranking administrator. In her state and federal role, she coordinated numerous grant-funded programs and worked closely with the superintendent and central business office on districtwide initiatives.
In her resignation letter, dated July 15, Taylor said leaving MCC was a difficult decision after what she described as “26 rewarding years in education at Mason County Central Schools.” She thanked district staff, families and the community for their support and said she was committed to ensuring a smooth transition before beginning her new position in Manistee.
Taylor’s departure comes during a period of leadership transition for the district. Earlier this month, Jeff Tuka began serving as superintendent, succeeding Jeff Mount, who retired June 30 after serving 20 years as superintendent and 27 years overall with the district. Tuka had been high school principal. His replacement in that position is long-time educator Brian Dotson.
