PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — The Pere Marquette Charter Township Board will consider awarding a contract Tuesday for a more than $1.3 million project to improve the main entrance and trail system at Pere Marquette Conservation Park.
The board will meet Tuesday, July 14, at 4 p.m. at Pere Marquette Township Hall, 1699 S. Pere Marquette Highway.
According to a recommendation from MCSA Group Inc., the township received four bids that were opened July 1 for the Conservation Park Main Entrance and Trail Project.
The project includes construction of a new paved park entrance drive, parking area, paved trail, site furniture, signage, solar-powered lighting and native habitat restoration seeding.
MCSA Group Vice President Melinda Whitten recommended the township award the contract to Hallack Contracting Inc. of Hart, the apparent low bidder, with a base bid of $1,297,987.
The engineering firm also recommended the township approve a total construction budget of $1,362,987, which includes the base bid and a $65,000 construction contingency.
In her recommendation to Township Supervisor Kelly Smith, Whitten said MCSA previously worked with Hallack Contracting on a project at Ludington State Park.
“They do quality work, complete projects on time, and are easy to work with on changes,” Whitten wrote.
The conservation park project is one of several major items on Tuesday’s agenda. The board will also receive a presentation of the township’s 2025 audited financial statements, conduct the first reading of a proposed ordinance establishing a data center moratorium, consider a METRO Act right-of-way telecommunications permit, consider appointing a code enforcement officer and review proposals for generators for Township Hall and the township fire department.
The meeting is open to the public. Public comment periods are scheduled near the beginning and end of the meeting.
