911 operating millage renewal to appear before Mason, Oceana voters Aug. 4

July 8, 2026

Voters in Mason and Oceana counties will decide the future of the Mason-Oceana 911 operating millage during the Tuesday, Aug. 4, primary election.

The proposal asks voters to renew the existing operating millage that funds the Mason-Oceana 911 emergency dispatch system. Because it is a bi-county millage, the proposal requires a majority of the combined votes cast in both Mason and Oceana counties to be approved.

If approved, the proposal would renew up to 0.1390 mill, or about 13.9 cents for every $1,000 of taxable value, for a period of six years, from 2026 through 2031. The millage would continue to provide funding for the operations of Mason-Oceana 911.

If levied in its entirety during the first year, the millage is expected to generate an estimated $544,866 for 911 operations.

The proposal is a renewal of a previously authorized 0.1400-mill levy that has been reduced to 0.1390 mill under the Headlee Amendment’s required rollback provisions. It does not seek to increase the authorized millage beyond the current rollback-adjusted rate.

Early in-person voting for the election begins Saturday, July 25, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 2. Voters should contact their local city or township clerk for early voting locations and hours. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Aug. 4.
