The Mason County Press has been a source of online news for 14 years. We pride ourselves on being able to provide this service free to readers through the generosity of our advertisers and those who choose the convenience of receiving our Daily Briefing email. We also take pride in being the only locally owned news source staffed by people who have lived in this area most, if not all, of our lives. We know Mason County.
Keeping local news alive is essential to our society. We tell the stories of our community, both good and bad. We keep the public informed and document history.
Since 2012, I have operated MCP with a staff of two full-time employees: myself and veteran reporter Allison Scarbrough, who also serves as news editor of Oceana County Press, which I launched in 2014. Together, along with the help of various contributors, we bring you the news 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. While others have only recently begun promoting this concept, we have been doing it since the beginning.
Today, I am asking for your help in growing Mason County Press and Oceana County Press. I mentioned our Daily Briefing earlier. Since launching that service, several hundred people have signed up. The cost is $120 a year, which breaks down to $10 a month, or about 33 cents a day.
This money stays local. It does not go to an out-of-state corporation. It helps us continue telling your stories, Mason County.
