LUDINGTON — The first in a series of three cemetery tours, presented by the Mason County Historical Society, will take place on Thursday, June 11 at Lakeview Cemetery. The “Masters & Commanders” tour will focus on the area’s maritime heritage, including captains, engineers and others connected to Ludington’s historic car ferry fleet.
Tickets for the tour are on sale for $35 per person and may be purchased by calling the historical society at (231) 843-4808 or visiting the Mason County Historical Society’s Rose Hawley Archives, 130 E. Ludington Ave.
The tour will be led by Rob Alway, local historian, editor-in-chief of the Mason County Press, and a member of the society’s board of directors.
Two more cemetery tours are planned for this summer:
“The Civil War Veterans of Amber Township” will be held Thursday, July 9 at Towns Cemetery in Amber Township and will highlight veterans who settled in the area following the Civil War along with the history of the surrounding farming community.
“The Pioneers of Scottville” will take place Saturday, Aug. 15 at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville and will feature stories about the city’s founders and early settlers.
Tickets for the other two tours are $45 per person and may be purchased online through the Mason County Historical Society’s TicketTailor page.
The cemetery tours are among several events being hosted by the historical society this year in recognition of the nation’s 250th anniversary, including a Revolutionary War encampment, historic home tours, and the 50th anniversary celebration of Historic White Pine Village.
