Herbert Sibley

Herbert Woodrow Sibley, 87, of Scottville, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at home.  He was born Dec. 27, 1938, in Muskegon, the son of Kenneth and Mary (Irvelina) Sibley.

On March 19, 1960, Herb married the former Nancy Cartwright and they spent 66 wonderful years together.  Herb worked as a union carpenter for Local 100 Carpenters’ Union, and was also a skilled farmer.  He enjoyed tending to his animals and going to the Ravenna Auction Sale every Monday since he was 18 years old.

Herb was a very hard worker, though he had a strong passion for farming and carpentry, his true passion was in his love for family.  He had a deep reverence for his wife, three daughters and grandchildren.

Herb is survived by: his wife, Nancy Sibley; two daughters, Susan (Scott) Gibson and Trudy Sibley-Miller; six grandchildren, Amanda Miller, Carly Miller, Dylan Miller, Brittany (Shawn) Gibson, Rachel (Mark) Bartholomew, and Stephanie (Mitchell) Schemanske; two great-grandchildren, Avery Gibson and Benjamin Schemanske; 4 brothers, George (Judy) Sibley, Chuck (Char) Sibley, Claude (Wanda) Sibley and Ted (Tammy) Sibley; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herb was preceded in death by: his father, Kenneth Sibley; his mother, Mary Lewis; his daughter, Robin Sibley; five brothers, Tony Sibley, Bobby Sibley, Ken Sibley, Alan Sibley and Ralph Sibley; and his sisters, Jean Krywicki and Joann Lewis.

Private graveside services have been held at Center Riverton Cemetery in Riverton Township.
