LUDINGTON — Tickets are now on sale for the Mason County Historical Society’s three cemetery tours taking place this summer as part of the community’s observance of America’s Semiquincentennial.
The tours, which begin at 6 p.m., will be held in June, July and August and will feature reenactors, descendants of pioneer families, and local historians sharing stories of Mason County’s past.
The first tour, “Masters & Commanders,” will take place Thursday, June 11 at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington and will focus on the area’s maritime heritage, including captains, engineers and others connected to Ludington’s historic car ferry fleet.
“The Civil War Veterans of Amber Township” will be held Thursday, July 9 at Towns Cemetery in Amber Township and will highlight veterans who settled in the area following the Civil War along with the history of the surrounding farming community.
“The Pioneers of Scottville” will take place Saturday, Aug. 15 at Brookside Cemetery in Scottville and will feature stories about the city’s founders and early settlers.
Tickets are $35 per person and may be purchased online through the Mason County Historical Society’s TicketTailor page.
The cemetery tours are among several events being hosted by the historical society this year in recognition of the nation’s 250th anniversary, including a Revolutionary War encampment, historic home tours, and the 50th anniversary celebration of Historic White Pine Village.
