SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s junior varsity softball team closed out its season Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Reed City at Spartan Community Field, winning 17-6 and 22-2.
The Spartans finished the season with a 19-9 record.
In the opener, Avery Miller earned the win in the circle, pitching five innings while allowing five hits and one earned run with six strikeouts and four walks.
Miller also led the MCC offense with a double, triple, walk, three runs scored and an RBI. Lexi Lemire went 3-for-3 with a single, double and triple while driving in three runs and scoring twice. Brielle Cerka added a double, two walks, three runs scored and an RBI.
Serenity Nead contributed a hit, two stolen bases, two RBIs and a run scored, while Syren Cohoon had a hit, walk, two stolen bases, two RBIs and three runs scored. Anya Shatova added a hit, walk, two runs scored and an RBI. Brooke Hawke had a hit, RBI and run scored, Ashley DeLeon drew two walks, stole two bases and scored twice, and Naomi Albaugh doubled.
Central continued its offensive surge in game two with a 22-2 victory.
Brooke Hawke pitched three innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out two and walking one.
Miller paced the Spartans at the plate with two singles, a three-RBI inside-the-park home run, three stolen bases and three runs scored. DeLeon added a single, triple, walk, four RBIs and three runs scored. Cerka had a single, RBI triple, walk and three runs scored.
Shatova recorded a single, walk, RBI and two runs scored, while Nead had an RBI single, stolen base and two runs scored. Cohoon added a single, walk, RBI, stolen base and three runs scored. Lemire tripled, drove in a run, walked twice and scored two runs. Kathryn Vinton added a two-RBI single and scored twice, and Hawke walked and scored two runs.
“Our girls showed up ready to play and finished the season strong with two wins tonight,” said MCC coach Jeanne Miller. “We are very proud of their dedication this season. They showed up, worked hard, learned along the way, trusted the process, and we had fun along the way.”
