SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central closed out the regular season in dominant fashion Thursday, sweeping Benzie Central 16-1 and 16-2 in a nonconference softball doubleheader at Spartan Community Field.

The Spartans’ offense was paced by Jordyn Melvin, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Aubrey Chye finished 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored, while Andrea Lopez went 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once.

Graycee Kalush, Ellen Norman, Cory, Lacie Salander and Ashlyn Lewis each added hits for Central. Cory drove in two runs, while Kalush, Norman, Mackenzie Carney and Lewis each scored twice. Cory, Lopez and Salander all crossed the plate once.

In the second game, Cory pitched all five innings for the Spartans, striking out seven without issuing a walk. She allowed five hits and two earned runs.

Melvin again led the MCC offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Chye went 1-for-2, scored three runs, walked once and was hit by a pitch.

Norman finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two walks and an RBI, while Cory added a hit, two walks, two runs scored and an RBI. Mackenzie Carney and Charlee Budreau each contributed a hit, with Carney driving in two runs. Kalush also added an RBI.

“Our girls played solid defense and offense tonight,” MCC interim coach Denise Cory said. “We only had two fielding errors total on the night, one in each game. Our baserunning was on point and every player hit the ball. I am so proud they ended their last regular season game with a bang. We are looking forward to districts.”
