CADILLAC — The Ludington varsity softball team dropped a doubleheader to Cadillac on Thursday, falling 11-3 and 12-2.

In the opener, Madison VanSickle pitched a complete six innings, allowing 11 hits while striking out seven.

Eva Flores led the Orioles offensively, going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI. VanSickle, Madelyn Kenyon and Kaelyn Cole each added a hit, while VanSickle drove in two runs.

In game two, Annika Heemstra pitched a complete game that ended in the bottom of the sixth inning before an out was recorded. She allowed six hits and four walks, hit six batters and struck out eight.

Charlie Morse paced the Orioles at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Jacee Cole, Kenyon and VanSickle each collected a hit, and VanSickle added an RBI.

Ludington coach Sierra Holmes said the Orioles struggled early in the first game before responding.

“We started off sluggish in the first game and fell behind 6-0 before battling back to make it 6-3,” Holmes said. “After that, both teams had runners on base, but Cadillac got the timely hits to bring those runners in. They also made some nice plays, especially their shortstop.”

Holmes said the second game remained close until Cadillac broke it open in the fourth inning.

“The second game was 2-2 going into the fourth inning, then Cadillac scored six runs in that inning,” Holmes said. “We did not make any defensive errors in the fourth, but they came up with some big hits with two outs.”

The Orioles are now 11-17 overall and 4-4 in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.
