SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Central boys track and field team finished second Friday at the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division meet at Spartan Community Field, securing second place outright in the final league standings behind conference champion Hart.
MCC Coach Patrick Nelson said the Spartans achieved one of the program’s best conference finishes in recent years.
“I was really proud of our team today,” Nelson said. “We wanted to make sure we didn’t drop in the standings and we were able to secure second place outright in the league, and this ended up being our best overall finish in the WMC since I’ve been head coach since 2020.”
The Spartans were led by several first-place performances.
Eli Glamzi won the high jump with a leap of 6-feet-2-inches, while Desmond Thomas captured the discus title with a throw of 129-3.
Jackson Poll added another conference championship in the 300-meter hurdles with a winning time of 41.51 seconds.
MCC also took first in the 400 relay as Eli Smith, Jayden Reams, Jackson Poll and Caleb Bennetts combined for a winning time of 1:33.41.
The Spartans return to action Tuesday when they host the Mason-Oceana-Manistee County Track and Field Invitational at Spartan Community Field. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with running events slated for 3:30 p.m.
