SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s varsity softball team was held scoreless in both games Friday, falling to North Muskegon 16-0 and 10-0 at Spartan Community Field.
The Spartans managed three hits in the opener while committing eight fielding errors.
Payton Cory pitched five innings for MCC, striking out two, walking three and allowing 11 hits and six earned runs.
Jordyn Melvin, Payton Cory and Charlee Budreau each recorded a hit for the Spartans.
“Game one, we could not get our bats going,” MCC coach Denise Cory said. “Several girls who normally put the bat on the ball were striking out. In addition, we had eight fielding errors which is unlike us. We have to do better, we are better than we performed tonight.”
In the second game, Mason County Central again struggled offensively in a 10-0 loss.
Payton Cory pitched the first two innings, walking two and allowing nine hits. Aubrey Chye threw the final three innings, striking out one, walking two and allowing two hits.
Chye, Ellen Norman and Avery Miller each had a hit for MCC. Graycee Kalush was hit by a pitch and Norman added a stolen base.
“Game two we still did not get our bats going but we managed to minimize our fielding errors to just one,” Denise Cory said. “We will continue to work on one thing at a time.”
