LUDINGTON — Ludington dropped a nonconference softball doubleheader to Fremont on Tuesday at Oriole Field, falling 10-0 and 11-1.
Madison VanSickle went the distance in the opener, pitching seven innings while allowing 14 hits and one walk with two strikeouts. Offensively, Jacee Cole and Annika Heemstra each recorded a hit, and Madelyn Kenyon drew two walks.
Heemstra pitched four innings in game two, giving up four hits while issuing 12 walks and hitting two batters. She struck out one. Cole, Heemstra and Eva Flores each had a hit. Cole drove in Ludington’s lone run, and Flores scored.
The Orioles are now 7-13 on the season.
“Defensively, we played pretty well tonight,” Ludington coach Sierra Holmes said. “We threw out several runners and made some nice plays. We are still very up and down offensively, though, and tonight we did not swing the bats well. Fremont has three pretty good pitchers. We took too many strikes early in the count, and that always makes it hard to hit well against good pitching. I did feel that we took better swings in the second game.”
