Ludington edges Fremont to win WMC Lakes golf jamboree

HAMLIN TOWNSHIP — Ludington held off a tight field Tuesday afternoon to win its home West Michigan Conference Lakes Division boys golf jamboree at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.

The Orioles posted a +21 team score of 165 to finish just ahead of Fremont at 167. Manistee placed third with 173, followed by Whitehall at 178, Montague at 185, Oakridge at 194 and Orchard View at +64.

“The boys were able to narrowly hold on to a very slim lead to win our home event,” Ludington coach Sebastian Alvarado said.

Windy conditions and the back nine at Lincoln Hills challenged the field. Fremont’s Sam Content earned medalist honors with an even-par 36.

Three golfers tied for second place: Ludington’s Alec Rodenbeck and Andrew Bousson, along with Manistee’s Max Scharp.

Arvid Tegner made his varsity debut for Ludington and contributed a 43, placing eighth overall. Channing Miller added a 44 for ninth. Finn Flanery shot 45 and Nate Traeger finished with a 49.

“It was great to see Andrew Bousson post his season low score at home,” Alvarado said. “It was also fantastic to have Arvid earn his spot today through his solid play the last few weeks and then post a 43 for the team. Alec continued with his solid play, even if he was disappointed with his score, he remains the anchor.”

Ludington returns to action Friday morning at the Rocket Invitational hosted by Reeths-Puffer.
