HESPERIA — The Mason County Central junior varsity softball team used a high-powered offense and solid pitching to sweep Hesperia on Monday, winning 22-12 and 10-1.

In the opener, the Spartans erupted for 22 runs, backed by Brooke Hawke’s complete-game effort in the circle. Hawke pitched six innings, allowing nine hits and seven walks while striking out five and giving up six earned runs.

MCC’s offense was paced by Avery Miller, who collected two hits and scored four runs. Anya Shatova reached base consistently, drawing four walks and scoring four times, while Emma Hansen scored three runs and walked twice.

Brielle Cerka delivered a key performance with a timely hit and four RBIs. Serenity Nead added two hits, drove in three runs and scored once.

Hawke helped her own cause with three walks and two runs scored. Syren Cohoon walked four times, was hit by a pitch and scored three runs. Ashley DeLeon and Lexi Lemire each added two runs.

The Spartans carried that momentum into game two, securing a 10-1 win behind Miller’s strong outing in the circle. She pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out six and giving up one earned run.

At the plate, Miller had two hits, scored three runs and drew a walk. Cerka contributed a triple and two RBIs, while Shatova scored twice. Cohoon added a sacrifice fly, a walk and a run scored.

MCC coach Jeanne Miller said she is seeing steady improvement from her team.

“I’m happy to see the girls progressing,” she said. “They are in the right spots and doing the right things, just needing to finish the plays defensively.”

The Spartans improved to 9-3 and will host Pine River on Thursday.
