FRUITPORT — Ludington High School’s girls tennis team battled cold, windy conditions Saturday and came away with a share of the top spot at the Fruitport Invitational.
The Orioles tied for first place with Reeths-Puffer in a field that also included Muskegon Catholic Central, Whitehall, Fremont and the host Trojans.
Ludington’s depth proved decisive, highlighted by five flight championships. Khloe Wachowski led the singles lineup with a title at No. 4 singles, while the Orioles swept all four doubles flights.
At No. 1 doubles, Kristi Killips and Ella Micka claimed first place. Kennedy Feyers and Lydia Kwietniewski followed with a win at No. 2 doubles. Amaya Sytek and Maggie Tang took top honors at No. 3 doubles, and Isabelle Brower and Chloe Vangills rounded out the sweep with a victory at No. 4 doubles.
“I thought all the players came out and played well,” Ludington’s coach said. “It was cold and windy, yet they all performed well.”
Ludington returns to Lakes 8 Conference play Monday, hosting North Muskegon.
