LUDINGTON — The Ludington varsity softball team swept a doubleheader from Onekama on Thursday at Oriole Field, winning 8-1 and 16-9.
Madison VanSickle earned the win in the opener, pitching a complete six innings. She allowed seven hits and struck out 11. At the plate, Madelyn Kenyon, Eva Flores and Taylor King each went 2-for-3. Kenyon had a triple, and King drove in two runs.
In game two, Annika Heemstra started in the circle for Ludington, pitching one inning with seven walks and three strikeouts. VanSickle took over and worked the final five innings, allowing eight hits while striking out eight.
Offensively, Kenyon led the Orioles, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Heemstra finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Kaelyn Cole, Braylynn Lange, Flores and King each added a hit.
Ludington coach Sierra Holmes said the team showed flexibility and balance throughout the night.
“This was a good night for us,” Holmes said. “We had some kids in different spots, and they were able to settle in and do what they needed to do to get the wins. We also got offensive contributions from many different spots in the lineup.”
With the sweep, Ludington improves to 5-4 on the season.
