Scottville Clown Band accepting summer camp scholarship applications

SCOTTVILLE — The Scottville Clown Band is accepting scholarship applications for middle and high school students planning to attend summer performing arts programs.

The band will award over $15,000 in scholarships for 2026 through its Raymond Schulte Memorial Scholarship program, continuing its long-standing mission of supporting youth music education.

The application period began April 1 and runs through May 7, 2026. Scholarship recipients are expected to be announced later in May.

Scholarships are open to Michigan students enrolled in middle or high school who plan to attend summer performing arts programs such as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Interlochen Center for the Arts and similar programs.

In addition to student scholarships, the Clown Band also supports local music education through grants to school programs and a separate scholarship for a performing arts student at West Shore Community College.

“One of our primary missions is to support youth performing arts education,” said Marv Drier, the band’s student services chair, in a previous statement.

The Scottville Clown Band, founded in 1903 as the Scottville Merchants’ Band, has a long history of community performance and philanthropy. Since awarding its first scholarship in 1966, the organization has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to support young musicians across the region.
