AFFEW to host Earth Day Celebration

PERE MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP — AFFEW (A Few Friends of the Environment of the World) will host its annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 25, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 5810 E. Bryant Rd.

The event, themed “Our Power, Our Planet,” will feature a full day of environmental education, family activities and community engagement. Organizers invite residents to attend for a mix of hands-on experiences, presentations and outdoor activities.

Activities will include a guided nature hike, children’s programming featuring live reptiles, and a variety of informational booths open throughout much of the day. A keynote presentation by Mary Reilly will focus on solar energy, including the benefits and tradeoffs of large-scale solar development.

Additional highlights include a “book walk” titled “I Can Save the Earth,” tours of the U Dig It Community Garden, a photo booth and opportunities to visit with local environmental organizations. Healthy lunch options and treats will be available for purchase.

According to the event schedule, doors open at 10 a.m., with programming beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing through the afternoon. Scheduled activities include a drum circle, educational workshops, garden tours, a nature hike and multiple presentations on wildlife, conservation and native plants.

The event is designed to provide opportunities for residents of all ages to learn about environmental stewardship while connecting with local organizations and resources.
