HART — There is a strong sense of redemption at Hart’s newest place of Christian worship.

Located at 314 S. State St., Radiant Church held its first services last Sunday, drawing two packed gatherings. A total of 399 people attended the church, an extension of Radiant Church in Ludington.

While hearts and souls will be renewed at the church, the building itself also reflects redemption. It once served as Oceana County’s probation and parole offices and later housed Planned Parenthood. In a full-circle moment — the building originally was home to Hart Baptist Church — it is once again a place of worship, hope and joy.

The vision to expand Radiant Church began more than 12 years ago with the concept known as Radiant Coast.

“We have always had a vision that our church’s reach would go beyond Ludington, beyond Mason County,” said Jerry Theis, lead pastor of Radiant Church. “We have felt a calling to bring our ministry to Oceana and Manistee counties.”

After years of prayer and searching, the Hart campus began to take shape in 2024.

“We didn’t know this building had originally served as a church,” Theis said. “When we started looking at the interior and discovered that the many rooms had no supporting walls, we realized we could easily create a sanctuary — discovering later that the room had indeed been built as a sanctuary.”

The concept of this satellite campus is unique to west Michigan. The pastor will typically preach from the Ludington campus, with a live video stream feeding into the Hart campus and broadcast on a life-size screen.

“We actually developed the front screen so the image is almost the exact height of the pastor and the worship team members who are on stage in Ludington,” said Colin Prominski, Hart campus pastor.

Radiant Church is not new to live streaming and video production. The church broadcasts services to the Mason County Jail every Sunday and also streams on its website and on the Oceana County Press and Mason County Press Facebook pages. Church representatives also consulted with West Shore Community College when it developed its broadcast and video production studio.

“This isn’t a 100% satellite campus, though,” Prominski said. “This is really a hybrid campus. I will be preaching from the Hart campus on a regular basis, and Pastor Jerry will also be here, with the feed sometimes sent to Ludington.”

Theis said there will be strong personal and spiritual connections at the church on Sundays and throughout the week.

“This will be a very active facility with many different ministries happening,” Theis said. “We believe there is much more to church than just Sunday mornings. This is a place for relationships and healing all week.”

Theis said the church also aims to be a good neighbor to the Hart community and other local congregations.

“We are bringing a different style of worship to Oceana County, but we believe our way is certainly not the only way,” Theis said. “We truly want to work with the other churches and continue their great efforts of strengthening the Christian community.”

Prominski and his family have made Oceana County their home. Born in Grand Haven, Prominski is the son of a pastor and grew up in Ionia. He and his wife, Kaitlyn, have four children, ages 10, 4, 2 and a newborn. Their oldest child attends Hart Public Schools.
