LUDINGTON — The 31-year-old Wellston man who was tackled by a Mason County sheriff’s deputy to stop him from allegedly fleeing from police Wednesday, March 25, was arraigned on seven charges in Mason County’s 79th District Court.
Joseph Wade Conrad is charged with felonies of third-degree fleeing and eluding police, assaulting/resisting/obstructing police and possession of a narcotic or cocaine less than 25 grams and misdemeanors of open intoxicants in a vehicle, driving while license suspended, operating without insurance and unlawful license plate, according to court records.
The vehicle chase began on US 31 at Koenig Road in Mason County and ended in Lake County around 1 a.m. A deputy attempted a traffic stop on a 2006 gold Cadillac DTS for displaying an improper registration plate. Conrad failed to stop and reportedly fled the scene.
Conrad crashed into a ditch on Riverside Drive and 10 ½ Mile Road in Lake County, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole. He then fled on foot into the woods, and the deputy chased him, eventually tackling him and arresting him.
Sheriff Cole said Conrad’s warrants have a second-offense habitual offender notice.
Conrad remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $50,000 cash/surety bond. He is scheduled to appear in court April 15 for a preliminary exam.
