Conservation district seeking public input on natural resource needs

March 20, 2026

SCOTTVILLE — The Mason-Lake Conservation District is seeking public input on conservation priorities in Mason and Lake counties through a new survey.

The district is conducting the survey as part of its five-year planning process to identify natural resource and conservation needs across its service area, which includes Mason County and the western half of Lake County.

Officials said the survey results will help guide development of the district’s strategic plan and determine how resources are allocated in the coming years.

“We want to get the survey to as many people as possible who live, work and play in Mason and Lake counties,” said Dani McGarry, executive director of the Mason-Lake Conservation District. “As a local government focused on conservation, this survey helps us to see where the public wants us to focus our time and resources.”

The survey takes about five minutes to complete and is available online at the district’s website. Residents may also request a paper copy by calling the conservation district office.

Participants who complete the survey will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate that can be used toward tree seedlings, native plants and other conservation products offered by the district.

Surveys must be submitted by April 15 to be eligible for the drawing.

District officials noted that conservation projects often take years to plan, fund and complete, making early public input critical to long-term success.

The Mason-Lake Conservation District serves Mason County and the western portion of Lake County.
