EAST LANSING — Avery Crawford of Custer has been accepted into the Honors College at Michigan State University.
Crawford, a 2025 graduate of Mason County Eastern High School and the daughter of Miranda and Darrell Crawford, is currently a freshman at MSU. She is majoring in biology on a pre-health track through the university’s MSU College of Natural Science.
According to its website, the MSU Honors College is one of the nation’s most distinctive and extensive honors programs. It serves academically talented and motivated students who are committed to achieving academic excellence.
“The Honors College strives to ensure an enriched academic and social experience for its members and to create an environment that fosters active and innovative learning,” the website states.
The program focuses on personalized academic planning rather than requiring a strict set of courses. Students benefit from the close-knit atmosphere of a small college while studying at a major research university.
Crawford said her career goal is to become a surgeon. She is a member of the MSU Future Surgeons Society and the Pre‑Health Club.
She currently maintains a 4.0 grade point average. Crawford was admitted to the Honors College after completing a competitive application process and participating in the university’s pre-Honors College program.
As an Honors College student, she will be able to waive certain general education requirements, allowing her to focus more on career-oriented coursework related to her future in medicine.
