MAPLE CITY — Mason County Central fell to Traverse City St. Francis Monday in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 District 69 district quarterfinals hosted by Glen Lake High School. The Spartans lost 61-33.
“Tonight was a tough night,” said MCC Coach Brent Lyon. “TC St Francis played really well and shot the lights out. We were in an uphill battle from the start when we got down 6 early. We battled back to make the first quarter close. We were down 15 at halftime but never gave up.
“The second half was much like the first and we couldn’t get the offense clicking like they did.
“Sadly the season ended tonight and I wasn’t ready for it to be over yet, to tell the truth. It’s so hard not knowing that Sunday was our last practice.
“I want to thank all my girls for never giving up and always fighting until the end. Every girl on this team has a special place in my heart. The season didn’t end the way we wanted but the future looks bright for MCC girls basketball.”
