MANISTEE TOWNSHIP, Manistee Co. — The Polar Plunge fundraiser for Area 24 Special Olympics will take place on Saturday, March 14 at Little River Casino Resort. During the event, participants will have the opportunity to take a refreshing jump in an outdoor pool, all in the name of helping raise money for special athletes.
Last year, 100 people took the plunge, raising around $25,000.
The plunge is presented by Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Michigan.
“It’s 30 seconds of shock and awe, for a really good cause,” said Ludington Police Officer Marshall Law, who serves on the committee.
The plunge is one of many that will take place across the state through March. Little River Casino Resort has been hosting the local event, which supports local athletes, for the past eight years, Law said.
The event will begin with a parade of costumes at 1 p.m., with participants parading to the plunge. Registration begins at the resort, 2700 Orchard Highway, at 11 a.m
Those who preregister and raise at least $100 will get a free sweatshirt.
