RMS Titanic near Queenstown, Ireland (now Cobh), April 11, 1912

SCOTTVILLE — The Mason County Historical Society will hold its first Mason County History Chat on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Scottville Area Senior Center, 140 S. Main St. The program is free.

Rob Alway, editor-in-chief of the Mason County Press and treasurer of the Mason County Historical Society, will present an encore presentation of Mason County’s Titanic Connection, recalling the story of Ida Anderson, who died on the RMS Titanic in 1912. Anderson was on her way to Ludington to take care of her late sister’s children.

Alway will present the story along with Dr. Axel Johnson, Ida’s great-nephew. The two presented the story last month at the Mason County Historical Society as part of the society’s 2026 Speaker Series.

Other Mason County History Chats will be held monthly until summer.
