MONTAGUE — Mason County Central dominated the court Wednesday, defeating the Montague Wildcats 70-44 in West Michigan Conference Rivers Division action.

“I really liked our team energy tonight,” said MCC Coach Chris VanderHaag. “Playing back-to-back games isn’t easy, but these kids battled through tired, sore bodies and were still diving for loose balls even with a 20-point lead. That says a lot about who they are.

Our guys continue to push and grind all season long. We talk a lot about getting 1% better every game, and I feel like we’re doing that. We have a couple of tough games coming up, but I like where we’re at and how we’re playing as we head toward districts.”

MCC again had balanced scoring. Cole VanderHaag led the way with a game-high 24 points to go along with four assists and three steals.

“He’s playing really good basketball right now,” Coach VanderHaag said.  “Michael Chye was a menace defensively, finishing with four steals and 12 points. Brandon Peters and Trent Hawke were strong on the glass and gave us some key rebounds throughout the night.

Overall, I’m proud of the effort and the consistency our guys are showing this time of year.”
