NOTICE OF ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE
SYNOPSIS OF ORDINANCE
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE, that at a duly called special meeting on January 26, 2026, pursuant to the authority conferred by the General Law Village Act, Public Act 3 of 1895, as amended, the village council of the Village of Custer, a general law village located in Mason County, Michigan, did adopt Ordinance #124, an ordinance providing for the appointment of the village clerk and village treasurer, in accordance with the authority conferred by MCL 62.1(3). Ordinance #124 establishes the positions of village clerk and village treasurer as appointive rather than elective offices, provides that the village president shall nominate and the village council shall appoint the village clerk and village treasurer, establishes regular four-year terms of office for the appointive village clerk and appointive village treasurer, provides for the filling of interim vacancies in the offices of village clerk and village treasurer, repeals certain inconsistent provisions, and provides an effective date for the ordinance. This synopsis is published pursuant to MCL 66.4(1).
NOTICE OF RIGHT TO PETITION AND DELAYED EFFECT
This ordinance shall take effect 45 days after the date of its adoption unless a conforming petition signed by not less than ten percent (10%) of the registered electors of the Village of Custer is filed with the village clerk within such 45-day period. If a petition satisfying the requirements of MCL 62.1(4) is filed within such 45-day period, this ordinance shall take effect only upon its approval by the electors at the next general or special village election held on the question of whether the ordinance should be approved.
