Charlotte Marie Betka

Charlotte Marie Betka, 95, of Ludington, died Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Grace Valley Assisted Living in Kalamazoo.  She was born March 2, 1930, in Ludington.

Charlotte grew up in Ludington and graduated from St. Simon High School.  She then attended Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, followed by Wayne State University where she earned her bachelor of science degree in nursing.  Charlotte worked as a registered nurse in St. Joseph and taught nursing at Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids for many years until returning to Ludington to care for her aging mother.  While in Ludington she worked as a public health nurse until her retirement in 1996.

Charlotte had been an active member of St. Simon Catholic Church where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters.  In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling, reading, her walks through the Ludington State Park and watching sunsets at the Ludington city beach.

Charlotte is survived by: her sister, Barbara Cobb; her nieces, Cindy (Bruce) Bosier and Theresa (Bud) Needham; her nephews, Jeffrey (Emily) Cobb, James (Beverley) Cobb, Kevin (Margie) Cobb; and many great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was preceded in death by: her parents, Lawrence and Marie (Crean) Betka; her brother Donald Betka and his wife Elsa, her brother Harold and his wife Ann, her nephew, Patrick Betka, her niece, Dorothy (Betka) Batayneh; and her brother-in-law, Leroy Cobb.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, at St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington with Father Wayne B. Wheeler presiding.  Interment will be in the Pere Marquette Catholic Cemetery in the spring.  Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 1 p.m. until time of Mass.

Memorial contributions may be made to Muskegon Area Nurse Honor Guard.
