LUDINGTON — A 53-year-old man faces four felony charges in Mason County’s 79th District Court in connection to alleged building contractor fraud.
Scot Eric Latimer, owner of Pere Marquette Builders, LLC, 913 S. Washington Ave., is charged with the following offenses in two criminal cases: fraudulent use of a building contract; false sworn statement by a contractor $20,000 or more; fraudulent use of a building contractor fund; and false pretenses $1,000-$20,000.
The offense dates listed in his court file are Aug. 1, 2022 and June 2, 2024. The case was investigated by the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
Latimer faced similar charges in Manistee County, but those charges were dismissed in 85th District Court in December of last year, according to court records. Two counts of false pretenses with intent to defraud $100,000 or more; one count of false pretenses with intent to defraud $50,000-$100,000; one count of false pretenses with intent to defraud $20,000-$50,000; and one count of larceny by conversion $1,000-$20,000 were dismissed by Judge Jared Christopher Henry. The charges against Kit Alden Potter, 45, of Kalkaska are pending in Manistee’s 19th Circuit Court. Potter was included in a Manistee County Sheriff’s Office press release about Latimer, but he was not specifically named as an accomplice to Latimer.
In Mason County, Latimer is scheduled to appear for a probable cause conference Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. His bail was set at $5,000/personal recognizance.
