MANISTEE — West Shore Community College’s HumanKind Series continues this winter with “Did You Guys Eat?”, an award-winning documentary and community conversation exploring the unseen labor and lived realities behind the food on our tables.
The free event will take place Saturday, Feb. 7, from 2–4 p.m. at the West Shore Community College Downtown Manistee Education Center, 400 River St., Manistee. Refreshments will be provided, and the public is encouraged to attend. This event is co-sponsored by the Manistee Area Racial Justice & Diversity Initiative (MARJDI), a fiscally sponsored program of the Manistee County Community Foundation.
The documentary, “Did You Guys Eat?”, was co-produced by Alma College professor Stephany Slaughter, instructor Nick Wracan, and Alma College students and alumni. The film has earned national recognition for its compassionate portrayal of Michigan farmworkers and the agricultural systems that sustain communities across the state.
Professor Slaughter will introduce the screening, which will be followed by a moderated panel discussion featuring local Manistee County farmers and farmworkers. Together, they will reflect on the realities of food production, labor, equity, and the human connections that support everyday meals.
The event aligns with the mission of WSCC’s HumanKind Series to foster dialogue around shared humanity, social responsibility, and the stories that shape our communities.
