Varsity Wrestling: MCC wins duals against Montague, Fremont

WHITEHALL — Mason County Central was victorious in its matches at a quad meet at Whitehall High School Wednesday night, defeating the Montague Wildcats, 45-36, and the Fremont Packers, 48-35.

“It was good to get two wins tonight,” MCC Coach Kendel Trim said. “We are seeing improvement across the board which is great.”

Getting two wins on the night for the Spartans were junior Dameon Gaitan, 113 pounds, who brings his record to 20-7; sophomore Wyatt Herwig, 126, improving his record to 17-9; senior David Letts, 144, 14-16; senior Parker Overmyer, 165, 19-5; and senior Landon Angst, 215, 22-7.

“It was great to get a win against Montague tonight,” Trim said. “We haven’t beaten them in a while and this was a big group of seniors for them. It was nice to be able to beat them before those guys move on.

Central’s record is now 12-7. The Spartans will travel to Shelby on Saturday for super duals meet.
