OAKRIDGE — Mason County Central placed fifth in West Michigan Conference competition hosted by Oakridge High School Wednesday. Twelve teams competed.
“We had a pretty rough competition yesterday scoring season lows in round 1 and 3,” said MCC Coach Cheri Stibitz. “Round 3 is usually where we make up our 10 points that we are penalized for in round 2 for being under the mandated number of competitors for division 3. This was not the case yesterday. Out of the top five teams we were the lowest scoring round 3 and it is typically the exact opposite.
“This was our first competition in two weeks and I think that had a huge impact on us this week. Our competitions in the past two weeks have been canceled due to the weather. Snow days and not being able to practice took its toll on us this week.
“We are currently not maxed out on points in round 2 and round 3 due to the skills that we put out in those rounds. We will be looking forward to making some necessary changes and hopefully maxing out our score sheet next week. Round 3 has a required skill of a back or front tuck and several athletes on our team are very close to the skill just don’t quite have it there safely yet.
“Unfortunately this set back has put us in third place so far for for the conference. We look forward to practicing a little harder to make up for lost time this week and will put our best foot forward next Wednesday where we complete in Shelby for the fourth conference match up.
