Marjorie Morang

Marjorie Elaine Morang, known affectionately as Margie, passed away on January 20, 2026, at her home in Free Soil. Born in Manistee, she lived a rich and fulfilling life characterized by her roles as a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and a strong-willed individual.

Margie attended Manistee High School and began her career as a seamstress at Glen of Michigan and Henry Ford Hospital. After marrying John Morang Jr. on October 27, 1956, she transitioned to being a devoted homemaker. Her entrepreneurial spirit later led her to own and operate a ceramic shop where she not only created and sold ceramics but also taught the craft to others.

Margie was a faithful member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Free Soil where she devoted her time to the Rosary Society. Her artistic talents were further showcased through her hobbies; Margie painted beautiful canvases and skillfully restored antique furniture, bringing new life to old treasures.

Margie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Morang Jr.; her daughter, Elaine Morang; her parents, Oluf and Margaret (Pomeroy) Gunnersen; siblings Alice (Ernie) Ketz, Janet (Russ) Colombo, Marion (Roy) Fortier, Ruth Dankowski, Kay (Charlie) Hiipakka, Georgie (Elden) Goemaere, and Bill (Verna) Gunnersen; parents-in-law John and Josephine Morong; her son-in-law, Tom Paul; and siblings-in-law, Steve Morong, Margaret (Leslie) Jorgensen, Sophie (Merrill) Chrest, and Mary Grace (Jerry) Fenner.

She is survived by her children, Mike Morang, Dave (Jenny) Morang, and Cathy Paul; her sister, Bee Zee Guenthardt; sisters-in-law Anna Marie (Ken) Bazarnik and Thana Morong; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated in her honor in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John Cantius Catholic Church, honoring Margie’s memory and her community spirit. Margie’s legacy of love, creativity, and resilience will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
