Most Michigan counties are under a cold air advisory issued by the National Weather Service from 7 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, until 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.
“An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures, gusty winds and dangerous wind chills to the Northern Plains before expanding to the South and East,” states NWS.
Extremely cold wind chills as low as 20 to 25 below are expected locally Friday morning. Expect “continued significant cold Friday and Friday night.
“The dangerously cold wind chills approaching 25 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures.
“Use caution while outdoors. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible and consider making checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.”
