Thief/thieves break into store’s shed and steal returnable cans

GRANT TOWNSHIP — A thief or thieves broke into a storage shed located behind Ertie’s Forest Trail EZ Mart on North US 31 and stole several returnable cans, said Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole.

The break-in was reported Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 4:40 a.m. 

The following is other Mason County Sheriff’s Office activity Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026:

  • 2:45 a.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, Bean Road and State Street, City of Scottville.
  • 3:08 a.m., car/deer crash, no injury, Custer Road south of Sugar Grove Road, Sherman Township.
  • 5:40 a.m., one-vehicle crash, no injury, US 31 freeway south of Chauvez Road, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 11:38 a.m., a 24-year-old Mason County man was cited for driving while license suspended following a traffic stop, US 31 freeway at the Pere Marquette Highway off-ramp, Pere Marquette Township.
  • 2:59 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, Fountain Road west of Stiles Road, Victory Township.
  • 3:36 p.m., two-vehicle crash, no injury, US 31 south of Sugar Grove Road, Sherman Township.
  • 4:08 p.m., one-vehicle crash, no injury, Masten and Kinney roads, Logan Township.
  • 5:51 p.m., one-vehicle crash, no injury, Pere Marquette Highway south of Kinney Road, Summit Township.
  • 7:41 p.m., alarm activation, Amber Township.
