LUDINGTON — West Michigan Community Mental Health has begun a new service, Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC), designed to provide timely support for individuals experiencing urgent behavioral health or substance use concerns.
The Behavioral Health Urgent Care offers a walk-in option for individuals who need immediate behavioral health support but do not require emergency room services. The BHUC helps bridge the gap between routine outpatient care and emergency intervention, ensuring people receive the right level of support at the right time.
Services are available during weekday hours, with expanded availability on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“Behavioral health needs don’t always wait for a scheduled appointment,” said Ellen Plummer, chief healthcare integration officer at West Michigan Community Mental Health. “The Behavioral Health Urgent Care allows us to respond quickly, reduce barriers to care, and ensure individuals receive timely support in an environment that is focused on stabilization, connection, and recovery.”
Through the BHUC, individuals can receive:
- Immediate assessment and evaluation
- Crisis intervention and stabilization
- Care Coordination
- Medical screening and medication management support
The BHUC also plays a critical role in supporting law enforcement, local hospitals, and community partners by providing an appropriate alternative for urgent behavioral health needs and helping reduce unnecessary emergency department visits.
