HESPERIA — Mason County Central split dual matches Wednesday, Jan. 14, losing against Hesperia 51-30 and defeating Orchard View 39-36.
“Hesperia had a few guys back and we had a few guys out,” said MCC Coach Kendel Trim.
Referring to the match against Orchard View, Trim said, “It was another tough dual where every match counted and it came down to the last match. I tell the kids it never really comes down to the last match. They have to remember that the first match is just as important as the last one and they need to wrestle every match like the dual depends on it.”
Spartan junior Wyatt Herwig, 126 pounds, was able to pull off a last second win early in the dual for a big win. Noah Williams was able to finish the dual at 106 with a pin to seal the win. Also winning matches along the way were Damien Letts at 120 who got a big pin in a competitive match. Junior Raelyn Wilson, 132, senior David Letts, 144, and junior William Thomsen, who won both of his matches by pin on the night at 150. Senior Landon Angst, 215, who also won both matches on the night, had a big pin up at heavyweight.
Senior Parker Overmyer, 165, sophomore Desmond Thomas, 175, and Wyatt Herwig also won their matches against Hesperia.
MCC’s next match will be at the Hopkins Invitational on Saturday.
