LUDINGTON — The Ludington Police Department is “actively investigating a threat towards individuals” at the Ludington High School.
“On Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Ludington Police Department was notified by Ludington High School administration of a threat directed toward Ludington High School,” states a press release issued by LPD. “The threat was assessed as serious in nature and prompted an immediate response.
“The Ludington Police Department is actively investigating the matter with assistance from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office school resource officer team. The investigation remains ongoing, and it is anticipated that initial investigative efforts will continue into Thursday. As this is an active investigation, no additional details will be made available. Out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff, Ludington Area Schools will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2026. Additional information will be provided as the investigation proceeds.”
The Ludington Area School District posted on Facebook that the district was cancelling all evening events and activities.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, and with the worsening weather, we will be cancelling school for tomorrow to give the LPD time to do a thorough investigation,” states Interim Superintendent Mary Marshall in the school district’s post. “If any high school student has any relevant information about a threat, please contact the Ludington Police Department.”
