VICTORY TOWNSHIP — The Lakeshore Badgers ended a four game winning streak Saturday, Jan. 10, during a home match against the Genesee Generals.

“We came out with confidence riding a four game winning streak against an opponent who was coming off a loss to the Cadillac Vikings on Friday night,” said Lakeshore Coach Brian Zatloukal.

The Badgers struck first with a goal 2 minutes in to the game from Mason County Central senior Levi Young.  Genesee responded with 4 minutes remaining in the period. The Generals were able to capitalize on a Badger mistake on the power plate late in the first period, scoring a short handed goal with 16 seconds remaining in the period.

In the second period the Badgers traded goals with Genesee with each team scoring a goal.  The Badger goal was from Ludington High School sophomore Adrian Lundberg. Lakeshore then scored two goals in the third period with tallies from MCC juniors Young and Cyric Jabrocki.  Genesee got three goals in the frame including an empty net goal as the Badgers pressed to tie the game late.

Brockton Jabrocki took the loss in net stopping 21 of the 27 shots he faced.

“I was happy with the team’s performance this afternoon,” Zatloukal said. “We carried play and were able to generate offense with our forecheck. Defensively we limited their shot and overall rush chances and played low risk hockey. Both of these were an emphasis in practice this week and it was good to see the team execute well in these phases of the game. Genesee has two strong players who we were not able to contain that made the difference for them tonight. Logan Beckwith and Brennen Benard each had 5 points in the game.”

The Badgers return to action on Thursday, January 15 with a home game at the West Shore Community Ice Arena on the campus of West Shore Community College against the Negaunee Miners.  Game time is 5:30 p.m.

The Lakeshore Badgers is a cooperative team hosted by Manistee Area Public Schools and consisting of high school players from MAPS, Ludington, Mason County Central, Mason County Eastern, Pentwater, Shelby and Hart.
