Ray Krause
Raynard “Ray” Krause, 89 of Scottville, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025.
Ray was born on September 13, 1936, in Manistee, the son of Edwin and Elsie (Hiipakka) Krause. Born with a dry sense of humor and a robust personality, Ray was known for his strength, honesty, caring nature, and generosity.
He attended Manistee High School before deciding to work on the lower lakers. Ray married Donna Jane Fitch in April of 1956, and they shared many years together.
Ray was working at Dow Chemical of Ludington when he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country from December 4, 1959, until he was honorably discharged on March 5, 1962. His time in the service was marked by dedication and a commitment to his country, embodying the Army values in every aspect of his life. Ray returned to the Mason County area and continued working at Dow Chemical until his retirement.
He was a man of many interests. Ray was seldom seen not building or fixing something, always ready to lend his skills to help others. His passion for coaching was evident through his involvement in his children’s sports; he coached his son Brian’s baseball and his daughter Lisa’s softball teams. Ray also found joy in cooking, especially grilling.
Ray is survived by his daughter Lisa (Shane) Howe; grandson Brandon Krause; granddaughter Courtney Krause; his great-grandson — who was his ray of sunshine — Emmett Rae Peter; and many other family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife Donna; son Brian Krause; and his in-laws Elsie and Charles Fitch.
Ray’s final resting place will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Ludington, alongside his wife, where they will be buried in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mason County Mutts or Mason County Animal Control.
