AMBER TOWNSHIP — While repairs are still underway following an early December fire, Baker Ford of Ludington is back open. On Dec. 2 a furnace caught fire at the dealership, 3045 W. US 10-31. While nobody was hurt and personnel from Scottville Fire Department were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which was limited to the furnace, the building suffered major smoke damage causing the dealership to close down for a couple weeks.

“Smoke and soot went into the duct work which caused major damage throughout the building,” said Pam Sniegowski, general sales manager. “We had no choice but to shut the building down.”

The smoke damage totaled two new Ford vehicles on display in the showroom, Sniegowski said.

“The damage didn’t impact the shop very much but did affect all other areas of the building including all customer service areas and our business office.”

While restoration and repair crews continue to work on the building, which is expected to take several months, business is back to usual. Car sales are being handled out of a trailer on the east side of the building. A customer waiting room has been set up in the quick service area of the building, the parts counter is open and service technicians are repairing vehicles.

“It’s been a challenge but we want our customers to understand that we are fully operational,” Sniegowski said.

Customers may contact the dealership by calling 231-845-5111 or through its website, bakerfordludington.com. Information is also available on the Baker Ford of Ludington Facebook page.
