‘What truly set Mark apart was how deeply he cared for the victims of crime.’ — Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand

LUDINGTON — Mason County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mark E. Webb passed away, Dec. 24.

“Mason County has lost a dedicated public servant and a valued friend with the passing of Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Mark E. Webb, who died in the morning hours of Christmas Eve at the age of 67,” said Mason County Prosecuting Attorney Beth Hand.

“Mark came to Mason County from Isabella County Prosecutor’s Office with a desire to serve this community and make a difference,” said Hand. “From the moment he arrived, it was clear he took his role seriously and viewed public service as a calling, not just a job. He worked tirelessly on behalf of this community and brought experience, thoughtfulness, and steady judgment to every case he handled.

“What truly set Mark apart was how deeply he cared for the victims of crime. He never lost sight of the people behind the paperwork. Victims knew they were being listened to and respected, and his colleagues knew he would always approach cases with fairness, compassion, and integrity.

“Mark had a great sense of humor,” said Prosecutor Hand. “Even on difficult days, he had a way of lightening the mood, reminding everyone that kindness and humanity still mattered in a demanding profession. His laughter and wit were gifts to those who worked alongside him.

“Mark’s passing leaves a profound void in the Mason County Prosecutor’s Office and the community he served. His dedication, professionalism, and genuine concern for others will not be forgotten.

“I am deeply grateful for Mark E. Webb’s service to Mason County and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the justice he worked so hard to uphold. Mark had recently received notice from the Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan that he would be receiving an award for 20 years of serving the public in the capacity of an assistant prosecutor. I will miss him dearly.”
