
Shirley Klinefelter
Shirley Bernice Klinefelter, 98, of Custer, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Born February 12, 1927, in St. Clair Shores, Shirley was the daughter of the late Edward Louis and Viola Elizabeth (Champin) Forton. She attended St. Clair Shores High School.
Shirley worked in housekeeping at Baywood Nursing Home in Ludington before retiring in 1992.
She led a vibrant life characterized by her feisty, sweet, stubborn, and very silly nature, leaving a memorable mark on all who knew her.
Shirley was an avid card player, with euchre being her game of choice, often playing with family and friends. Her love for travel was shared with her daughter and other family members, exploring various states and creating lasting memories. Shirley also enjoyed dancing to her heart’s content at the Rendezvous.
A gifted storyteller, Shirley cherished reminiscing about her childhood, captivating her listeners with vivid tales of days gone by. In her later years, she found solace and joy in quieter activities such as coloring, engaging in word searches, reading books, and indulging in sweet treats. A fan of classic Westerns, she loved watching Gene Autry films, a pastime that brought her immense pleasure.
Shirley’s zest for life and her ability to find happiness in simple pleasures will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Shirley is survived by her children Ron (Cindy) Klinefelter, Dan (Dawn) Klinefelter, and Wanda Shoup; granddaughters Jennifer Keith and Robin Shoup; grandsons Justin Klinefelter and Aaron Klinefelter; three great grandsons and four great-granddaughters; and many other family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings Edward, Virginia, Tom, Carl, George, and Leonard “Butch”; her daughter Virginia Monroe; and multiple cousins.
A funeral service for Shirley will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, at noon at Grace Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m.. She will be laid to rest Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.
